Walk-In Tubs

What is a Walk in Bathtub?

A walk in bathtub is a bathtub that is designed for you to literally walk in to. The purpose of this is for those that have trouble climbing in and out of the traditional bathtub style, eliminating much of the hazards of slipping and falling. This is accomplished with adding more vertical elements to the bathtub design instead of having more horizontal space as with a normal bathtub. Walk in bathtubs usually contain footholds and handlebars and many feature seats so that you don’t have to stand while bathing, placing less pressure on your legs.

Who are Walk in Tubs for?

Walk in bathtubs are great for those that have weak knees or problems standing for long periods of time as many of these are built with seats. This extends doubly over as the primary reason for these bathtubs to exist is to assist both the elderly and any disabled individuals. With the design of these bathtubs, anyone can easily enter into the bathtub with the assistance of guide rails and steps without fear of tripping and falling on slippery bathtub surfaces.

Popular features

Popular Features of Walk-in Tubs

Walk-in tubs have a range of features that help make bathing a more comfortable and safer experience. Below is a breakdown of some of the most common elements of these tubs.

  • Step-in height: This refers to the height of the threshold you’ll need to step over to get inside the tub. A standard bathtub can have thresholds of 15 inches. For walk-in tubs, the average stepover is between 3 and 7 inches. That means there’s no need for high leg lifting or balancing. Some wheelchair accessible tubs are even lower. Opting for the lowest height possible is best if you want safer access to your tub.
  • Watertight door: Walk-in tubs are sealed with watertight doors, which allows bathers to step into the tub safely. This standard feature will either swing inward or outward, depending on the tub and your preference. Although these doors have tight seals, opening and closing them requires minimal arm strength.
  • Hand-held showerhead: A hand-held shower head is one of the best ways to take a shower while sitting down. This allows even those with limited mobility to easily bathe without straining themselves. Many shower heads also come with adjustable force and spray, which is convenient if you prefer less water pressure.
  • Built-in chair: Fixed chairs are a common feature of walk-in tubs which allows you to sit comfortably during your bath, while also reducing the risk of falling. These chairs are usually soft and some are even heated. Depending on the tub, the chair can be adjusted to meet your specific height and needs.
  • Therapy features: Hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, and heated surfaces are considered more luxurious additions. High-quality whirlpools and air jets help soothe and massage seniors with aching muscles and joint pain.

Different Types of Walk-in Tubs

Just like regular bathtubs, walk-in tubs come in all shapes and sizes. Many are designed to help with specific accessibility or therapy needs. Before selecting a walk-in tub, you may want to compare your options to see which one meets your needs the best. Below are some of the different types of walk-in tubs on the market.

  • Soaker: The soaker is a large standard walk-in tub with a watertight door and a fixed seat. This tub makes a good option for those trying to keep their costs down.
  • Hydrotherapy: These tubs, often referred to as whirlpool or jacuzzi tubs, are known for their strong jets that help massage sore muscles. Hydrotherapy walk-in tubs are an excellent choice for aiding in arthritis.
  • Wheelchair accessible: Roll-in or wheelchair accessible tubs have wide swinging doors and grab bars, making it easy to move from a wheelchair onto the seat inside.
  • Aromatherapy: These tubs provide soothing and relaxing scents while you bathe. They mix in essential oils with the water to give you a truly spa-like experience.
  • Bariatric: A bariatric walk-in bathtub has wide doors and is designed to support people who weigh more than 300 pounds.

Health Benefits of a Walk-In Tub

Walk-in tubs can help with a number of health concerns, including:

Arthritis

The Arthritis Foundation has reported that warm water therapy is proven to help alleviate pain caused by musculoskeletal conditions, including fibromyalgia, arthritis and low back pain. To maximize the benefit of warm water therapy, researchers recommend that you:

  • Soak for at least 20 minutes
  • Drink water before and after to stay hydrated
  • Use warm, not hot water – Ideal temperature range is 92 to 100 degrees
  • Perform gentle stretching exercises while you soak

Cardiovascular Health

A recent study has found that warm baths can help to improve cardiovascular health. For those with heart issues, a warm bath can help by:

  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Increasing blood vessel dilation
  • Decreasing arterial stiffness

Blood Sugar Level Reduction

For those with Type-2 diabetes, a warm bath may help reduce blood sugar levels. Researchers found that subjects in a study who took regular warm baths had reduced peak blood sugar levels by 10%, increased energy expenditure levels by 80% and burned an average of 126 calories per hour. While people with Type-2 Diabetes should continue to eat well and exercise, a warm bath could help reduce their blood sugar levels.

Stress and Anxiety

A warm bath has long been used to help people relax and relieve stress. An advancement in bathing called chromatherapy has taken the relaxing benefits of a warm bath to the next level. Chromatherapy is the use of colored lights to help enhance relaxation and reduce tension. Some walk-in tub models have optional chromatherapy lights that can increase the tension reducing benefits of a bath.

So as you can see, the therapeutic health benefits of bathing coupled with the accessibility of a walk-in bathtub make them an attractive bathing solution for those with limited mobility due to aging, illness, or disability.

Disadvantages of walk-in tubs

There are some disadvantages to having a walk-in tub.

Walk-in tub fill and drain times

Two downsides are that you have to get in the tub before you fill it and you can’t exit until it’s drained.

Standard walk-in tubs take six to eight minutes to fill up and up to 15 minutes to drain. Some newer models, like those from Kohler and Ella’s Bubbles, have quick drain technology that empties the tub in as few as two minutes.

Features like heated seats and advanced drains can help you stay warm throughout your bath, and a scald prevention valve is critical to preventing dangerously hot water from burning you.

Walk-in tub water usage

Some walk-in tubs hold much more water than traditional tubs, and supplying this much warm water can be taxing for many water heaters. If you’re buying a large walk-in tub, consult the manufacturer to see if your water heater is up to the task.

Not all walk-in tubs hold enough water to create this problem, though. An average tub holds about 50 gallons of water, while some walk-in tubs can hold up to 80 gallons.

While a walk-in tub is generally deeper than a traditional tub, this depth does not always equate to more volume. In some cases, a walk-in tub may be narrower than a standard tub, and the seat in a walk-in tub takes up much of its potential volume.

How Much Do Walk-In Tubs Cost?

As with anything else, the brand and any extra bells and whistles you choose will play a factor in how much a walk-in tub costs. The average cost of a tub with installation can range anywhere from $1,500 to as much as $20,000. While those prices might initially make your jaw drop, just remember that’s still less expensive than a fall-related hospital visit. To invest in your health and wellbeing long-term, we think the price is worth it. While traditional Medicare doesn’t cover the cost of a walk-in tub, you’ll be able to get a tax reduction if the tub is installed for a medical safety reason! The cost of your walk-in tub will vary based on several factors, including:

  • Hydrotherapy or jets: These features may tack on an extra fee, as the installer will need to wire electricity to the tub.
  • Luxury Features: The more customized features you add, the more you can expect your tub to cost. For instance, if you want to add a decorative bath wall and upgraded finishes, or if the tub needs to be customized to fit the size of your bathroom, you can expect to pay more.
  • Plumbing: Walk-in tubs hold a lot of water. You may need a new water heater or upgraded pipes to have enough hot water and allow the tub to fill quickly.
  • Installation: Installation may be included in your walk-in tub’s cost, depending on the brand and where you purchase it. However, if it’s not included, installation is an additional cost to consider, which can range from around $1,000 to $3,000.

Installing a walk-in tub could raise your home’s value

Why Do I Need a Walk-In Tub?

There are several advantages to adding a walk-in tub to your home aside from making it easier to take a bath or shower. Let’s take a look at how a walk-in tub can improve your quality of life and safety.

Hydrotherapy

Jets in a whirlpool or jacuzzi tub can massage sore muscles and help you relax. Hydrotherapy can help seniors cope with injuries like burns, ulcers, and amputations. This feature is also great if you’re dealing with conditions like arthritis, as the water and jets can soothe aching joints and inflammation. Even if you decide not to add jets to your walk-in tub, simply soaking in the warm water also offers numerous health benefits. Warm water on its own can alleviate joint and muscle pain, and it encourages the release of endorphins to boost your mood.

Prevent Accidents and Injuries

Getting into a standard tub is one of the leading causes of falls for older adults with mobility issues or a history of falling. According to the CDC, a fall can result in a hefty hospital bill, often costing more than $30,000. For seniors on fixed incomes or a tight budget, this can add stress and financial strain to physical injury. Since walk-in tubs are designed to eliminate the hazards of bathing, your risk of falling will be greatly reduced, which means you can avoid an unpleasant and very pricey visit to the hospital as well.

Along with helping seniors avoid falls, walk-in tubs also remove the need for a sliding shower door, which poses another risk to seniors. As we get older, our balance and mobility begin to decline, especially when standing on slippery surfaces, like in a bath or shower. Because shower doors aren’t designed to support body weight, they may move or break if too much weight is put on them when trying to balance. Since walk-in tubs get rid of sliding doors and typically feature sturdy handrails, they are much safer.

May Increase Home Value

Installing a walk-in tub could raise your home’s value, especially if you live in a retirement community. Since retirement communities are designed for older adults, any added safety features and medical equipment, like a walk-in tub, can make your property more desirable and increase its value, which means a walk-in tub is a long-term investment!

Walk-in tub installation

Many walk-in tubs require professional installation, and companies don’t always include this in their cost estimates. Some homes, particularly older ones, may also need to have their electrical and plumbing systems updated before you can install a walk-in tub.

Another thing to keep in mind is that walk-in tubs are quite large — you need a relatively big bathroom for it to work. You might have to temporarily remove your door to fit the new tub inside.

Some walk-in tubs are more affordable to install than others. Gelcoat tubs are typically easier to lift and move and thus easier to get installed, while durable acrylic tubs are heavier and may take longer to install.

Your walk-in tub company should work with you to determine what needs to be done before installation.

Walk in Tub vs Shower Tub Combo

A shower bathtub combo is a flexible design, allowing you to take any existing bathtub and simply add a shower attachment, some curtains or doors, and you have a shower bathtub combination, giving you more flexibility in your bathing. Of the two, the shower, bathtub combination is easily more flexible in both price point and function as it gives the option for quick showers or long baths all in one more digestible price point as the many of these can be put together for under $500. For many, a shower bathtub combination is going to be the more practical choice as the negatives of a walk-in bathtub is one of time and flexibility. Walk-in bathtubs have only one method of bathing and it is a fairly time consuming one at that. Their purpose shouldn’t be understated however, as they are well-designed bathtubs, but if you don’t have elderly or disabled individuals in your home, a walk-in bathtub is not recommended.

How long does a walk in tub last?

With proper maintenance, a walk in bathtub should last anywhere from 10-15 years depending on the material used. Fiberglass will typically curb around the low end of the spectrum, lasting 15 years at the max, where as acrylic will have a much longer shelf life, floating between 25-30 years easily. The difference with walk-in bathtubs compared to other bathtubs is that not all of the surface area is used during bathing, meaning there may be build up and erosion on areas that are not immediately visible to you, so be mindful of this moving forward as these bathtubs are not cheap.

Will Medicare Pay for a Walk-In Tub?

In most cases, a walk-in tub is not considered a piece of durable medical equipment by Medicare, which means it's not covered. However, in some rare cases, Medicare may reimburse you for part of the cost, but the tub needs to be purchased and installed first.

Will Medicaid Pay for a Walk-In Tub?

If a person qualifies for Medicaid (which is determined on a state-by-state basis), there is a chance the walk-in tub may be covered. But, that is something you need to look into since rules and regulations vary. If you are looking for a reimbursement for a walk-in tub, you need to file a claim with Medicare and get a written prescription from your doctor stating that it is a medical necessity. As with any medical need, you should always consult with your doctor to discuss whether investing in a walk-in tub is right for you.

In fact, rats and mice are known to spread more than 35 diseases. How are the Pests harmful for humans?

  • Pests are defined as any harmful, noxious or troublesome organism.
  • Common pests include insects, mites, rodents, bed bugs, cockroaches, ants, termites, wood borers, lizards, etc, which wreak havoc on people, plants, animals or the entire ecology in general.
  • This does not even include the bacteria that can be found on pests themselves
  • Common household pests such as cockroaches, rats and mosquitoes are carriers for infectious diseases and must be exterminated lest they overrun a household.
  • Pests and their negative effects on people, pests are injurious to health. Pests can act as carriers for allergens which irritate people with sensitive medical conditions. Pest’s faecal dropping and shed skin can also become airborne, contaminating the air we breathe in.
  • Rodents, Mouse and Rats, likewise carry salmonella on their bodies, leaving a trail of contamination on every surface
  • Mosquitoes, on the other hand, carry dengue fever. As they breed in stagnant water, it is highly recommended that water containers be frequently used up and covered.
  • Bed Bugs suck blood from the sleeping people, who are lying on the beds, infested by bed bugs. This can lead to many of the diseases, borne by blood circulation and blood transfusion.
  • Termites and Woodborersare responsible in destroying properties worth billions of dollar, by destroying the entire housing infrastructure and its fixtures, with in and out of the housing infrastructure.
  • Ants, Lizards and Bees or Wasps do not cause any direct damage to humans but may act as indirect nuisance value to human homes and to entire human society.

Why Pest Control is Needed?

Pest control is necessary to preserve home and working premises from the unwanted invaders. Home is the place for one to live safely, and certainly not a place for the bugs, termites, and rodents. But sometimes, due to some loopholes, pests get the golden chance to intrude in home, causing several diseases. Before the pests’ torment one, one must take the necessary measures and actions.

Pests can enter anyone’s home by tiny holes near the doors or windows, places which are otherwise unnoticed. Pests always tend to come in a gang, they don’t generally prefer solo act. So, if one sees that there is just one cockroach or any bug for that matter, then be sure that the rest of the gang members are also present nearby. There are certain chemical products available in the market, and one can remove the pests one self. But it is judicious to opt for professional pest control service.

Pest control is made up of all the methods and practices of keeping pests away. Its application goes beyond what we usually know of it in homes. It is used in agriculture and in other vital industries.

Importance of Pest Control

  • One of the most important reasons why pest control is needed is because of health. Pests can bring diseases that can be quite serious. One of the most serious epidemics, the bubonic plague which caused millions of deaths in the World in Medieval times came from rats and other rodent pests. Cockroaches and other pests can also carry germs into their body. That should be your main concern when it comes to having pests in your home.
  • Pests can have an impact on production and resources. This is the main reason why pest control is vital to in agriculture and other industries. Sometimes pests can be such a huge problem that they will seriously affect the production of one industry. They can wipe out production and bring it down to zero if they are not controlled.
  • Aside from the damage that they can do to resources and production, they can also cause some serious damage to existing structure and things. Sometimes the damage can be so severe that a whole structure would be rendered useless because
of it, like in cases where termites have eaten away at a wooden structure.
  • Then there is also the fact that pest control is needed in order to keep appearances. Whether it is a home or an office, having pests running around is never going to be a good thing. It would have to be taken care of.

A commercial painting company can offer your office, apartment complex, retail store, restaurant, or church the following services:

  • Exterior Painting
  • Interior Painting
  • Homeowner Association (HOA) Painting
  • Hotel Remodeling Painting
  • Specialized Roof Coatings
  • New Drywall Painting
  • Power Washing
  • Decorative or Logo Painting
  • Church Painting
  • Condo Association Painting
  • Multi-Unit Apartment Exterior Painting
  • Masonry Repair

Characteristics of Exterior Paint

  • Exterior paint is exposed to all types of varying weather conditions. Exterior paint is therefore required to provide protection against Ultra Violet radiation of the sun as well as fungal growth and of course dampness during the rains and snow.
  • Exterior paints are so made to combat mildew as well as fading. Further, they have to be fade resistant as they face very high temperatures and UV radiation.
  • The resins used for exterior paint can be softer so that they survive temperature changes and ill effects due to exposure to moisture. They are supposed to be flexible. i.e they should not easily crack on expansion / contraction.
  • Exterior paint must be tougher and should be capable of resisting peeling and chipping.
  • Exterior paint is also supposed to resist water hence they are made waterproof.
  • Exterior paints need sunlight to cure.
  • Exterior paint contains many additives like pesticides and fungicides.
  • Exterior Paints release more VOC as it cures, making it unsafe for indoor use.
  • Exterior paint can be applied to a variety of substrates simply by changing the sheen. When it rains the exterior of your house acts as a sponge absorbing small amounts of water. The flat paint allows the water to escape without bubbling your paint.
callusapros.com-Painting-Services-07
callusapros.com-Painting-Services-08

Characteristics of Interior Paint

  • Interior paint is more to do with aesthetics and decoration purposes and at the same time, they need to add properties of easy maintenance, wash ability and dampness prevention.
  • Interior paint is designed to withstand abrasion. Interior paint is also designed to be more delicate than exterior paint because they occupy the same space as you do.
  • Interior paint is so made that they can be scrubbed and can resist staining. Interior paint is formulated to be more resistant to physical damage.
  • The resins used for interior paint can be firmer because the paint does not have to deal with weather and temperature differences like exterior paint.
  • Interior paint is not required to be fade resistant as they are not subject to extreme temperature conditions and hence do not fade easily.
  • Interior paints need to be stain resistant for hiding brush and roller marks.
  • Interior paint should get cured even without direct exposure to sunlight.
  • Interior paint does not require additives like pesticides and fungicides.
  • Interior paint is made washable so as to clean spots and marks that they accidentally get especially by small kids and pets at home.
  • Interior paint should have a low or zero VOC (Volatile organic compounds). This is important in preserving the air quality in your home. Low or zero VOC help to reduce your health risks.

What is the Difference Between Interior and Exterior Paint?

Even though there can be many subtle differences between these two types, the primary one is the choice of resin. As we already mentioned, the resin is the component that binds the pigment to the material you’re painting on.

Exterior paint has to survive being exposed to moisture and huge temperature changes. It also has to resist fading, chipping and peeling. Because of these reasons, the resins used in the manufacture of exterior paints have to be softer.

For interior paints, huge temperature changes and moisture are not an issue. Therefore, the resins used in their manufacture can be more rigid. This, in turn, cuts down on smearing and scuffing.

How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Locksmith?

Different Locksmith services have different costs due to the different parts and materials required, the time of day of the job and how long it will take.

There are a numerous reasons why you may need to call out a Locksmith and each service will carry a different price point. For example you may want your locks changed if you have moved house, had a break in or are just concerned about your home security. Simply changing your locks may not cost as much as if you were looking to upgrade your locks to higher security models or make sure that all your locks are insurance compliant, due to the different parts and quality required that often comes with upgrading.

Landlords and estate agents will often call out a Locksmith to change the locks when a tenant has lost or not returned the keys but because of the potential number of doors and entrances to the property the cost is going to be more than just changing a single lock.

What Are Average Service Charges Of A Locksmith?

Service charges relate to what a locksmith charges as a minimum call-out charge, his hourly rate, and his emergency after hour rate:

  • Call Out Charge: The call-out charge can vary between $30 – $85 per the first hour. Most locksmiths charge close to $75.
  • Hourly Rates During Regular Hours: Typically, close to $75 per hour.
  • Hourly Rates During After Hours: Typically, the hourly rate can go up to $100.
  • Emergency/After-Hour Charge: These types of call-outs can procure a charge ranging from $95 – $245 depending on the job requirement.

There are many reasons you might want to call a locksmith — from using their emergency services if you’ve locked yourself out, to securing a new house after you move in. As with any skilled service, it’s best practice to shop around for locksmith estimates to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

What Is a Home Security System?

A home security system consists of a number of electronic components that communicate with a central control panel, working together to protect a home against potential intruders. Such components may include the following:

  • Control panel
  • Interior and exterior motion sensors
  • Floodlights
  • Siren or alarm
  • Video doorbells
  • Entry point sensors
  • Security cameras
  • Yard signs and window stickers
  • Glass-break sensors

How Do Security Systems Work?

For the majority of home security systems, all of the components connect to a base station. From there, they connect to a mobile application, allowing you to monitor and control everything remotely. The majority of systems use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi or cellular to connect to your phones. Other systems choose to have a landline or battery backup in case of power outages.

When you’re out, you arm our security system. When you return home, you disarm it by inputting your password on a keypad, using a voice command, pressing a key fob, or using our app. When our system is disarmed, none of the sensors go off, and our camera stops automatically recording. In contrast, our smoke and carbon monoxide sensors remain on whether or not our security system is armed. Of course, if our system is armed, the sensors turn on, and our cameras start recording.

We use a mobile application to livestream footage from our security camera, receive notifications from our sensors, speak through two-way audio, and other capabilities. As opposed to a local alarm system, smart home security lets us see what’s going on at home, wherever we are. Local alarms just set off a siren at our house, which isn’t very useful.

callusapros.com-Home-Security-Systems-28

Types of Home Security Systems

If you live in a high-crime area, go out of town frequently, keep valuables in your home or live alone, you may want to have a security system installed. Not only will the system secure your home, but it will also give you peace of mind as you go about your daily business. The right security system for your home will depend on your specific needs.

callusapros.com-Home-Security-Systems-17

Self-Monitored Security Systems

Monitoring a security system yourself is always an option and there are plenty of DIY security systems on the market. Installing a security system yourself allows you to place the components anywhere, customizing the system to your liking.

When a breach occurs, the DIY system will sound a high-decibel alarm to alert you. Then, it’s up to you whether or not to call the police, fire department or other emergency personnel.

.

Professionally-Monitored Security Systems

Several companies offer security systems that they monitor themselves. If the system is breached, it notifies the company to respond. A security expert may then communicate with you to determine the next steps.

When warranted, the company will contact the appropriate authorities in your area as well as your emergency contact on file.

callusapros.com-Home-Security-Systems-18
callusapros.com-Home-Security-Systems-19

Wired Security Systems

Most security companies offer both wireless and wired systems. In a wired security system, sensors and other components are connected to the central control panel by a series of wires. Hardwired systems are reliable in that they won’t succumb to any interferences, network outages or other issues. Wired systems are also less likely to run out of power compared to wireless systems.

If the wired security system is managed by a professional security company, the company will use phone lines to communicate with you after a breach. Unfortunately, some burglars know that they can cut a home’s phone line to disable the system.

Wireless Security Systems

Components in a wireless security system use a cellular network to communicate with the control panel. The system essentially creates a miniature network that uses radio waves, not wires, to send notifications to you and/or the managing security company.

Wireless security systems are easier to install than wired ones. They are also easy to upgrade, allowing you to add devices when needed. The drawback is that network interference and outages can disrupt a wireless security system’s abilities. And because they rely on batteries, they can run out of power if you’re not diligent about replacing them.

Applications of Security System for Home

A home security system provides comprehensive security to the home it is installed in.

  1. Residences Insides – The security devices are installed inside the homes away from the outer boundaries and act when the intruder has already entered the premises.
  2. Residences Outside – The devices that are made to protect the premises from outside are installed on the outside boundaries of the premises serving the purpose of deterring the intruders from entering.

Challenges to Home Security System

  • Buying Advanced Security System for home is still on an expensive side as compared to conventional devices.
  • Sometimes it is complained by the owners of the security system about the devices giving false alarms without anyone being present in their detection range.
  • Though the security industry is full of advanced technology products but sometimes it happens that due to the complicated structure of the building they are not able to cover some areas of the home and hence there generates a scope of intrusion through those particular areas.
  • Not all the available devices in the market are wireless and hence during a power cut, it might happen that the home becomes unsecured for a while if proper power backup is not available with the devices.
  • Also, putting cables on the walls can degrade the appearance and show of the walls making them luck ugly.
  • Completely wireless home security systems too can prove to be critical in case proper maintenance is not taken care resulting in battery draining and thus unsecured home as a result.

Lawn Care Programs

  1. Early Spring March/April:– It is important to get your lawn off to a good start. This treatment will help your lawn “wake up” with a heavy feeding to promote strong growth. A pre-emergent crabgrass control is applied and broadleaf weed controls (weather permitting).
  2. Late Spring April/May:– A gradual release fertilizer is applied to maintain vigorous growth and good color. A second application of pre-emergent crabgrass controls and broadleaf weed controls.
  3. Early Summer May/June:- As temperatures warm, we will apply a summer blend extended nutrient release fertilizer. Persistent broadleaf weeds are treated and surface insect control is applied for full program customers at no additional charge.
  4. Late Summer July/August:- An application of slow-release fertilizer is applied at this time to maintain a healthy turf while eliminating the burn potential. This treatment will help your lawn recover from drought and other heat related stresses. Persistent broadleaf weeds are spot treated.
  5. Early Fall September/October:- Fall is the best growing time of the year for turf grass. We will apply a heavy rate of fertilizer with complete micronutrient package for improved color. Weeds will be controlled as needed. This is a great time to schedule aeration and over seeding.
  6. Late Fall October/November:- This balanced feeding is one of the most important treatments of the entire season. This application will help your lawn recover from summer stress and prepare for winter. Persistent broadleaf weeds are treated.

Lawn Care Services

Lawn Aeration

Professional lawn aeration services involve the use of specialized equipment that punctures the soil or removes small plugs of soil from your lawn. The size and depth of these holes vary depending on how compacted the soil is, but all lawn aeration services are aimed at improving the structure of the soil. This is done by creating air pockets that allow for better water drainage, which reduces runoff and limits erosion.

weed control

Weed control is the botanical component of pest control, which attempts to stop weeds, especially noxious weeds, from competing with desired flora and fauna including domesticated plants and livestock, and in natural settings preventing non native species competing with native species. Weed control is important in agriculture. Methods include hand cultivation with hoes, powered cultivation with cultivators, smothering with mulch, lethal wilting with high heat, burning, and chemical control with herbicides (weed killers).

Fertilization

Lawn fertilization involves the use of materials or mixtures to improve one or more of the necessary plant nutrients. Fertilizers are essential to the health and vitality of your grass.

Fertilizing your lawn will give you that healthy, lush, green lawn. The most vital ingredient in a lawn’s nutrient is nitrogen, and each type of grass needs diverse amounts of nutrients for maximum growth and performance. Regular fertilization and maintenance will ensure you enjoy a healthy and beautiful lawn.

Tree and Shrub Care

Trees and shrubs add shade and natural beauty to any landscape. However, proper care is essential to keep them healthy and strong. Your grass is only part of the equation when it comes to your home’s curb appeal. Landscaping is another big component. To keep your yard looking its best, you need to not only focus on lawn care service, but also make ornamental tree and shrub care a priority in your lawn care routine. Sometimes that’s easier said than done, and one misstep can have major implications for the health of your plants.

Mosquito and Pest Defense

Mosquito and pest treatment is perfect, and your satisfaction is our goal, and we will do everything in our ability to allow you and your family to enjoy your yard without the company of these annoying pests! Pricing is based on property size, give us a call today to get your personalized quote!

Green lawn care

Green lawn care, or organic lawn care, is simply a way of maintaining a green, healthy lawn without the use of harmful chemicals. Going green doesn’t mean you have to give up a well-maintained lawn or put more time and effort into keeping your lawn looking good.

Healthy lawn

The lawn is an integral part of our yard. This green lushness makes our yard pop and is the basis for other landscaping activities. When neglected, grasses turn a sickly shade of yellow and other problems such as erosion and grass patches may occur. Therefore, it’s essential to keep the lawn healthy always.

Having a healthy lawn in your house besides increasing aesthetics can also be a place for your fitness activities. It can also serve as a conducive environment for conveniently practicing your environmental enhancement program. Similarly, it can help reduce ecological risk leading to a better and healthier life.

Curb Appeal

Curb appeal is a term used to describe the general attractiveness of a house or other piece of property from the sidewalk to a prospective buyer. This term is often used by realtors trying to sell or evaluate a piece of property.

What Is the Difference Between Lawn Care, Lawn Maintenance and Landscaping?

callusapros.com-lawn-care-05

Lawn Care

Although lawn care and lawn maintenance both focus on improving the look of your lawn, they are considerably different. A lawn care program is designed to improve the overall health of your soil and lawn. It includes services such as pest control and soil testing to make sure your lawn’s turf and soil are healthy and disease-free. This helps to promote a lush, green lawn without the use of toxic chemicals.

callusapros.com-lawn-care-06

Lawn Maintenance

Lawn maintenance, on the other hand, includes services such as removing debris and leaves, edging borders, mowing grass, and spring and fall cleanup. A lawn maintenance service can be beneficial when planning new landscaping projects or as routine maintenance to improve the look and feel of your lawn.

callusapros.com-lawn-care-07

Landscaping

Making an outdoor space beautiful is known as landscaping. This is all-encompassing, covering everything from the grass to the pathways to the flowerbeds. Landscaping is important to residential properties because a well-designed landscape can help with flow and send a message about what the area is all about.

Landscaping includes:

  • Installing sod
  • Planting
  • Putting in flowers
  • Hardscaping work—concrete, pavers, retaining walls, water features

What is a home warranty?

A home warranty is a service contract that helps protect a homeowner by covering the costs of certain home repairs and replacements due to normal wear and tear.

It is important to note that a home warranty is separate from your homeowners insurance. Insurance typically protects a homeowner from unexpected issues that are more catastrophic in nature, such as a fire, flood, etc.

Your home warranty covers your home’s major components, such as the furnace, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical system. Depending on the contract, a home warranty may also cover major appliances such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, and sometimes even swimming pools.

How Does a Home Warranty Work?

Once you find a home warranty service provider and sign the contract, there is a set process you’ll have to follow when submitting a claim. If one of your covered appliances or systems breaks down, here’s what you should do:

  1. File a service request claim: You’ll contact the home warranty company to alert them to the issue. Let them know what appliance is broken and the manufacturer of the unit.
  2. Schedule an appointment: The home warranty company will locate a third-party service provider in their partner network and have them contact you. Note that some companies allow you to choose your own service provider.
  3. Repair or replace the appliance: The service provider will come to your home to diagnose the problem. The warranty company will then either pay for the repairs (parts and labor) or the replacement of the item.
  4. Pay your trade call fee: This service fee acts like a deductible for your home warranty policy and you’ll have to pay each time you file a claim. If the repair is less than the fee, you only pay the smaller amount.

What Does a Home Warranty Cover?

Home warranty coverage varies according to plans. Typically, a provider offers three types of home warranty plans: systems plans, appliance plans, and combination plans.

  • System plans cover major home systems like your air conditioning, heating, ductwork, HVAC, plumbing, water heater, garbage disposal, smoke detectors, ceiling fans, and doorbells.
  • Appliance plans cover most appliances like your refrigerator, dishwasher, range, oven, stove, built-in microwave, clothes washer and dryer, garage door opener, and freestanding ice makers.
  • Combo plans cover both systems and appliances. This plan tends to be the most popular option, and home warranty companies often include extra perks with their combination plans.

Some home warranty companies offer custom plans where you mix and match items you want to be covered. Many providers also provide optional coverage for miscellaneous items, such as your pool, hot tub, spa, or second refrigerator. Customers add these items to their plan for an additional cost per month.

What home warranties don’t cover

Plans cover your major systems and home appliances, but they don’t cover everything that can go wrong. Generally, home warranties do not cover issues related to:

  • Preexisting conditions
  • Improper installation or maintenance
  • Code violations
  • Items typically covered by home insurance
  • Unusual wear and tear
  • Structural elements
  • Smart devices
  • Solar panels
  • Fireplaces
  • Mold
  • Commercial-grade appliances
  • Items under manufacturers’ warranties

How to get a home warranty

Purchasing a home warranty contract is a fairly straightforward process, but there are certain steps you’ll want to follow and factors to consider before deciding on a policy.

  • Assess your needs: If you’re thinking about getting a home warranty for a home you’re purchasing, start by making an inventory of all the major appliances and home systems that are included in your new house. Take note of how old they are, when they were last serviced and if any of them already come with a warranty. A home warranty is only worth it if there’s a reasonable likelihood you’ll need to repair or replace something that’s not covered by an original warranty within the next year.
  • Shop around for plans: As with any insurance policy you buy, you should get quotes from at least two or three home warranty providers. Each will be able to offer something different, but your typical home warranty cost will fall into the range of $300 to $800 per year. If you have specific needs for your home, like coverage for a pool, septic tank or sump pump, make sure the provider includes these add-ons in your estimate.
  • Examine your plan carefully: It’s important to read the fine print on any contract, but this is especially true for home warranties. Make sure everything you think is covered is in fact covered — don’t assume anything. For example, a home warranty may exclude repairs for certain parts of a dishwasher, or it may only cover one of your two refrigerators. Each plan stipulates key things like what components are excluded, the maximum coverage amounts, the waiting period before coverage starts and how long a repair is guaranteed.
  • Negotiate with the seller if buying a home: If you’re in a buyer’s market, you may be able to get the seller to cover the cost of your warranty as part of your closing negotiations. Sometimes the seller will even market their home to include a free, yearlong home warranty plan to entice buyers. Note, however, that the seller is under no obligation to provide one and will only do so if they feel it’s worth it.

Pros and Cons of a Home Warranty

Benefits of home warranty protection plans

Peace of Mind

The advantage of home warranty is that it offers a sense of reassurance. One can enjoy financial security during unforeseen breakdowns and enjoy the access to skilled and vetted technicians.

Great Savings

Kitchen appliances, electrical systems, and plumbing fail or break down often. Thus, having some basic home warranty protection plans is also useful as it covers the replacement and repair costs. It is a wonderful option helping avoiding spending dollars.

Policy exclusion

Home warranties cover home appliances and systems breakdown under certain circumstances. Failures caused by hazards, natural disasters or neglect have no coverage.

May not be used

A home well-maintained less than 5 years old may experience fewer or no significant repairs. At such time the doubt may come is it worth paying for home warranty protection. But, taking a home warranty is an economical decision, in case unfortunately something stops working.

Adds Value

The home warranty protection plans offer more value in the market to the home. The home warranties of the transferrable type favor buyers. It instills a trust in the home condition.

Al Round Protection

On purchasing plans of home warranty protection, the household items are covered. In fact, some companies also offer cover on older devices regardless of its condition. It needs signing up after reading carefully the agreement.

callusapros.com-Home-Warranty-05

Home Warranty Coverage Limits

No matter what your home warranty plan covers, annual coverage limits will determine how much the company will pay to diagnose, repair, and replace each covered item. Of course, these coverage limits vary dramatically by company. For example, one home warranty plan might cap coverage at $500 per appliance, while another might cover up to $5,000 per item. Sometimes contracts have separate caps for each item, such as $500 for the washing machine and $1,000 for plumbing.

Keep in mind that the plans also have aggregate limits—the total amount the company will pay for all covered losses during one time period (usually a year). So, for instance, the plan may cover up to $5,000 per item, with an aggregate for all claims of $15,000.

Home Warranty Exclusions

Coverage inclusions and exclusions are where a home warranty provider lists the specifics of a plan’s coverage. The agreement may state that you have coverage for broad items, like “refrigerator” or “electrical system,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean all parts and components in those items are covered.

Home warranties generally provide coverage for items related to the essential function of each system or appliance. For example, your home warranty plan might cover your kitchen refrigerator, but it might not cover nonessential repairs. If a rack or shelf breaks, it won’t affect the essential function of a refrigerator, which is to keep items cold.

In this example, the fine print of your contract might look something like this:

Included

Individual components
Individual back-end parts
Integral freezer units

Excluded

Racks and shelves
Ice makers and ice crushers Beverage dispensers and water lines Leaks and food spoilage Hinges, glass and lighting

What Does a Home Warranty Cost?

The cost of a home warranty will vary by company and coverage plan. On average, a home warranty costs around $25-$150 per month. However, there could be additional charges in the form of optional add-ons, deductibles (anywhere from $50-$200), and service fees (typically $60-$100 each time a technician comes to your home).

In the event of a major repair or replacement item is needed, such as an HVAC system that can cost anywhere from $5,000 to over $12,000 to replace, sometimes a home warranty can practically pay for itself. When considering purchasing a home warranty, homeowners should create a list of the home’s major appliances and systems, their ages, and which are most at risk of breaking down or needing replacement. Then, the homeowner can decide which home warranty would best meet their needs.

Pros and Cons of a Home Warranty

Home warranties play important roles in protecting your home’s appliances and protecting you financially. There are a few downsides to consider though, so make sure you’re making a fully informed decision if you choose to buy a policy.

Pros

  • Provides peace of mind for costly repairs
  • Means lower repair costs on unanticipated breakdowns
  • Offers set premiums and a known deductible for repair costs
  • Protects major appliances as they age, unlike homeowners insurance

Cons

  • Even covered appliances lose coverage when they aren’t properly maintained
  • Requires you to pay premiums all year, even if you don’t end up needing coverage
  • Won’t cover damage from fire or other disasters
  • You may have to use the warranty company’s network of contractors and service people

What is Homeowners Insurance?

Homeowners insurance coverage typically includes any accidental damage to your home and belongings due to theft, storms, fires, and some natural disasters. There are four primary areas covered under a homeowners insurance policy:

  • The interior of your home
  • The exterior of your home
  • Personal property in case of theft, loss, or damage
  • General liability that can arise when a person is injured while on your property

How Does Homeowners Insurance Work?

So, for instance, say a pipe breaks and floods your kitchen. An insurance adjuster will come to your home and fill out a claim to repair or replace any damaged items in your home. Once the claim is approved, the insurance company will deduct the amount of your deductible and issue you a payment for the rest of the balance to repair your home. This deductible can also assist in lowering your yearly policy premium. The higher your deductible, the lower your yearly house insurance policy will cost. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners is a terrific resource for more information on home insurance, such as buying homeowners insurance and understanding what is not covered by homeowners insurance.

How Much is Homeowners Insurance?

A home insurance policy is usually mandatory, and a bank will generally require you to obtain one before issuing a mortgage on a home. In terms of typical homeowners insurance cost, the policy is renewed yearly, and its average annual cost is $1,312; though, this cost varies widely from state to state. All home insurance policies offer a deductible, which you’ll pay when your claim is approved. The policy will then take care of any additional costs. Of course, you’ll want to do your research when it comes to home insurance comparisons, as different home insurance companies offer different rates and deductible requirements.

What is the Difference Between Home Warranty and Home Insurance

A home warranty contract and a home insurance policy operate in similar ways. Both have a yearly premium and a deductible, although a home insurance premium and deductible is often much higher than a home warranty’s. The main differences between home warranties and home insurance are what they cover. Home insurance will help homeowners to pay for structural damage and loss of personal property from emergencies like theft or fire, while a home warranty covers repairs and replacements of a home’s systems and appliances when they fail from old age and normal wear and tear.

Another difference between a home warranty and home insurance is that home insurance is generally required for homeowners (if they have a mortgage on their home) while a home warranty plan is not required.

A home warranty and home insurance provide protection on different parts of a home, and together they can protect a homeowner’s budget from expensive repairs when they inevitably crop up.

Gutter

Gutter Problems?

We can help you!

The right gutters can protect your home from water damage, and look great doing it. Call Now!

The purpose of gutter on a house are to protect it from rainwater. Gutters work by diverting water away from your home and its foundation. When your gutters are removed, damaged or obstructed that water must go somewhere-and, given the opportunity, water can ruin virtually any part of your home.

callusapros.com-gutter-01

Most homeowners select budget-friendly white aluminum or vinyl options, but some make the higher upfront investment for copper or zinc styles. Learn about the types of gutters, gutter guards and gutter styles available and choose the best gutters for your home.

What Types of Gutters

We are looking to get new gutters installed to our home, but we want to find the perfect style that compliments our houses features. then this is the place for you. There are 3 main styles of gutters:

  1. K-Style Gutters

K-Style gutter is the most common type of gutter that you will see on modern homes. This type of gutter features a unique shape on the front edge that resembles modern home’s crown molding. So these gutters will compliment your homes look. In fact, many homeowners will choose a color of K-Style Gutter that matches or accents their homes trim and/or shutters.

They have a flat back so they are installed to the Fascia Board trim that is around the top edge of your home. Being flush against the wall ensures that water isn’t able to run down your wall. The bends and folds in the metal provide a rigid structure, so these gutters will withstand more damage than a half-round.

The two most common sizes are 5″ and 6″, with 5″ being the industry standard and the 6″ would be for slightly higher volume of water.

2. Half-Round Gutter

Half-Round gutters are more used in historic or older style homes. Their name describes them perfectly, as they are half of a circular pipe with the top half open for water. They are known to be more rustic, as they are usually made from copper which forms a patina over time. However, they also are available in Aluminum, Vinyl, or Galvanized Steel. Just like the K-style, these are available in 5″ and 6″ sizes.

These gutters are installed a little differently than normal gutters. First, brackets are installed to the home along the roof edge. Once the brackets are in place, the Half-Round gutter is dropped into place and secured. It should be noted that Copper gutters are much heavier than Aluminum gutters, so they need additional hardware to keep them secure to the home.

The half circle shape results in the inner part of the gutter being entirely smooth. Being smooth on the inside does provide a few advantages. First, the metal is less likely to corrode or rust because there is no where for it to pool up or stand still. Secondly, since there are no creases or hardware on the inside, debris has a nice clear path and is less likely to get caught up on something and form a clog.

3. Box gutters

The third most popular type of gutter that you’ll see around, is the Box Style gutter. These are over-sized gutters that are primarily used for commercial or industrial buildings. They are designed to handle large amounts of water, from larger roofs. The bigger your roof is, the more water output.

Box gutters are not hung on the edge of the roof like traditional gutters. They feature a high back section that tucks under the shingles on the roof. Therefore, they need to be installed when the building is being built. This ensures that no water can get into the building along the roof edge. You can install these to an older building, but you would sill need to get the roof re-done with new shingles.

Box style gutters come standard in sizes 7″ and 8″, but you can even purchase larger sizes like 10″.

callusapros.com-gutter-02

How Gutters Work

Gutters collect rainwater from your roof and channel it to the ground through a downspout. During rain, water rolls down from the slope of the roof to the gutters. As the water pools, it travels through the gutter system to the downspout. Downspouts carry water from the gutters to the base of the house. It is typically diverted to protect the basement and foundation from flooding and further water damage. There is a splash block at the base of the downspout to further divert the rainwater from the house.

Why They Are Important

Rain gutters are incredibly important because they protect your home from rain and water damage. Without a gutter system, rainwater would likely collect in your roof, causing rot, deterioration, or mold. This will weaken your shingles, soffit, and fascia. Naturally, gravity pulls the water down from your roof to your windows, siding, and foundation. Moisture in the windows causes condensation, which damages the sill and interior walls. Not to mention, mold and grime can develop. When pooling against your home’s foundation, water causes erosion, weakens the integrity and structure, and causes basement flooding. Gutters protect against all of this. However, gutters can weaken if not taken care of. Leaves and other debris easily block gutters from working properly. Once debris builds up, water will overflow and damage the siding of the home. Heavy storms and high winds can also misalign your gutter system. This can weaken your gutters and cause them to break entirely.

callusapros.com-gutter-06

Gutter Accessories

Gutters are responsible for handling the amount of rain your home gets every year. The best gutters for your home will both fit its style and protect it from water damage. Rain gutters come in k-style or half-round styles and six materials. Budget-friendly vinyl or aluminum gutters are very popular and DIY friendly. Some homes look better with copper, zinc or other specialty finishes. When you’re ready to replace your gutters, we can help with professional gutter installation.

  • Gutter guards or debris barriers are basically an aluminum hood and/or mesh screen that blocks most leaves and other trash.
  • Gutter cleaning tools make quick work of removing clogs and debris.
  • Rain chains lead water from the gutter directly to the ground, especially good for houses with deep overhangs.
  • Conductor heads give downspouts more time to drain during extra heavy storms.
  • Downspout brackets secure downspouts to the house, protecting them against wind. Many come in decorative finishes and designs.

How Much Does It Cost to Clean Gutters?

Hiring a professional gutter cleaning service will charge you around $50 to $700 because they will consider a few things, such as the size of your home, location, and desired method.

If the professionals need to use pressure washing the gutters or washing the inside of the downspouts, they will charge more than regular gutter cleanings service.

Flooring

Ready For New Floors? Whether You Want To Give Your Home A New Look Or Upgrade Your Current Flooring. Call Today. We Can Help You Decide What Flooring Is Best For Your Needs. We Will Help You Complete Your Flooring & Interior Works. Call us today!

Flooring

Flooring is the general term for a permanent covering of a floor, or for the work of installing such a floor covering. Floor covering is a term to generically describe any finish material applied over a floor structure to provide a walking surface. Both terms are used interchangeably but floor covering refers more to loose-laid materials.

Materials almost always classified as flooring include carpet, laminate, tile, and vinyl.

callusapros.com-flooring-02

Types of Flooring

The floor is the largest surface in the home, and picking the best type of flooring for your space depends on your budget, lifestyle and personal tastes. Each type has its unique benefits, and determining which flooring is best depends on each room’s needs and location.

Popular flooring options include wood, engineered flooring materials, vinyl, tile and carpet. Learn more about the most common flooring types, the materials’ best attributes and the best usage of each one, as well as overall flooring costs.

callusapros.com-flooring-03

Wood

The floor is the largest surface in the home, and picking the best type of flooring for your space depends on your budget, lifestyle and personal tastes. Each type has its unique benefits, and determining which flooring is best depends on each room’s needs and location. Popular flooring options include wood, engineered flooring materials, vinyl, tile and carpet. Learn more about the most common flooring types, the materials’ best attributes and the best usage of each one, as well as overall flooring costs.

callusapros.com-flooring-11

Laminate

Laminate floors are a less expensive alternative that seeks to achieve that wood-floor look. The material is composed of wood-based materials that are laminated together then layered with an imprint that mimics wood grains. Besides wood grain, laminate floors come in a variety of colors and styles. They’re durable and easier to install than hardwood. Although laminate is useful in high-traffic areas, it’s subject to moisture damage in kitchens or bathrooms where the floor gets wet often.

callusapros.com-flooring-10

Engineered Wood Floors

Engineered wood floors are made up of plywood planks that are layered on top with a real but very thin hardwood veneer. They’re a great option for those who want something in-between laminate and hardwood. Because they have real hardwood layered on top, they more closely resemble real hardwood floors at a fraction of the cost. Unlike hardwood, refurbishing these floors usually requires replacement of the surface.

callusapros.com-flooring-09

Tile

Tile is a popular option for many homeowners. Materials range from porcelain, terra cotta, marble, granite to slate. Glazed porcelain is the most cost-effective. It’s nonporous, waterproof (making it great for kitchens and bathrooms) and sturdy enough for high-trafficked parts of a home. Tiles come in a wide range of textures, shapes and finishes allowing a homeowner to be creative with tile selection. Overall tile floors are durable, but they can be expensive and difficult to install. Chips and scratches can damage tile and are difficult to repair.

callusapros.com-flooring-08

Carpet

Carpet is a common floor type in colder climates, especially in bedrooms. Carpet is cost-effective and is soft and warm underfoot. Carpet comes in a myriad of colors and styles and some are stain-resistant, which is preferable in homes with young children or pets. Carpets can be difficult to maintain; it’s best to have carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year.

callusapros.com-flooring-07

Linoleum

Linoleum is another eco-friendly flooring alternative. Linoleum is made from all-natural materials that make it antistatic and resistant to water, dings or scratches. Linoleum floors are often found in commercial buildings, like hospitals, because they’re easy to clean, comfortable underfoot and come in a variety of colors.

callusapros.com-flooring-06

Vinyl

Vinyl flooring is easy to clean and has a softer underfoot compared to tile or stone. Vinyl is a popular choice for basements, bathrooms or kitchens where moisture can be an issue. It’s generally affordable and comes in sheets or self-stick tiles, which makes vinyl a great DIY choice. Vinyl flooring is sold in a range of widths and thicknesses. Choose a thicker vinyl for high-trafficked areas.

callusapros.com-flooring-05

Bamboo

Bamboo is an extremely durable floor type that’s made from a lightweight woody grass. It can resist swelling and contractions that often happens to hardwood floors in warm, humid climates. Bamboo is also moisture-resistant making it a good option for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

callusapros.com-flooring-04

Concrete

Concrete floors have become popular, offering long-lasting durability and lower maintenance compared to other popular flooring types. Gray concrete can be stamped or stained to look like other expensive materials like marble, granite, stone or brick.

callusapros.com-flooring-12

Cork

Cork floors are an eco-friendly alternative. They have a light, cushiony feel that absorbs vibrations and sound. If cork floors get dented, they can often bounce back over a short period of time. Its natural, non-slip surface is ideal for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

How to choose flooring

Determine your budget

While some flooring and carpet companies specialize in discount products, others position themselves in the upscale market. When determining your budget, be sure to understand all pricing considerations.

  • Seasonal sales: Smart shoppers can take advantage of seasonal sales to purchase materials for less.
  • Measurements: Be aware that carpet was traditionally priced by the square yard (there are nine square feet in one square yard), but in recent years many retailers are advertising square-foot prices. When shopping, make sure all products are priced with the same square-area calculation.
  • Resale value: Solid hardwood floors, if maintained in good condition, typically add more to the resale value of a home than any other type of flooring. Natural stone tiles are also highly desirable to homebuyers.
  • Energy bills: Most flooring has little insulation value, so it won’t dramatically affect your energy savings. Carpeting has an R-Value of about 1.0, but when installed over dense polyurethane-foam padding it can triple the insulating value to about 3.0. Stone and tile feel cool underfoot in summer and will hold and radiate heat in winter if installed over a radiant-heat system.

Take home flooring samples

Flooring samples let you see the color, thickness, construction and quality of the flooring before purchasing it. Samples are especially important for customers who shop for flooring online.

  • Price: Flooring samples are free from many companies, while others charge a nominal fee — usually less than $5. Of course, you can view and handle flooring samples at flooring stores and home improvement centers, and some retailers will let you take samples home if you promise to return them.
  • Analysis: You should consider texture, style and color when comparing samples; you can also test them to see how easily they scratch, dent and stain.
  • Availability: Most retailers have flooring samples on hand for you to take home, while manufacturers and online sellers will ship samples to you.

Compare flooring material options

Some manufacturers make just one or two types of flooring, while others offer a broader range of products. And although there are retailers who focus on one product category — tile, for example — most stores sell and install virtually every type of flooring.

  • Hardwoods: You can sand and refinish solid hardwood floors so they don’t have to be replaced. Engineered hardwoods are easier to install and come in more wood species and colors.
  • Ceramic, porcelain and stone tile: These materials are extremely durable and, when properly installed, waterproof. Tile is most popular in bathrooms, kitchens and foyers.
  • Carpet: Carpeting offers soundproofing, insulation, affordability and a soft, cozy feel for bare feet. It also goes down quickly with a minimal amount of mess and disruption to your home.

Consider custom flooring

Homeowners increasingly have the option to design their own flooring, but expect to pay more for this privilege.

  • Design floors yourself: Online tools and in-store design help can assist in custom-designing the style, color and pattern of your new floor. Just be sure to check the flooring samples before ordering.
  • Have a company design your floors: Several dealers customize flooring using photos, sketches and artwork provided by homeowners.
  • Best materials for customizing: Carpet tiles and ceramic and porcelain tile are ideal for customization. This is done by placing the tile in unique designs, patterns and colors.

Compare flooring installation options

Several companies offer free flooring installation as part of a deal, while others subcontract the job to third parties. Never assume a seller will take care of the flooring installation; get it in writing and ask about the following:

  • Insurance: Installers should be insured and bonded to show homeowners they meet minimum standards and have coverage in the case of a faulty installation or worker injury. Being bonded offers protection if an installer fails to finish the job.
  • Fees: Be sure to ask about any additional charges for delivery, moving of furniture or removal and disposal of old flooring.
  • Warranty: Many installations come with warranties. As with all warranties, these provide varying levels of coverage for various lengths of time. For example, if a homeowner makes an alteration to the flooring after installation or improperly cleans it, they risk voiding their warranty.

Decide if you should finance

Dealers frequently offer financing through specialty credit cards. Others provide financing through loans — either their own or through local banks.

  • Interest-free offers: Interest-free offers are a good idea if you know you can pay off the bill before the term expires; otherwise, expect hefty interest charges.
  • Interest rates: Local flooring and carpet companies often charge higher interest rates than national companies, so read the terms of the loan carefully.
  • Requirements: A down payment from 1% to 10% and a minimum purchase amount are common prerequisites for financing through a loan; store credit cards tend to require minimum purchase amounts but no down payments.

Window Treatments

Honeycomb shades (also called cellular shades) are made from one continuous piece of fabric and they either roll up or fold up along their crisp pleats. Fabric is then bonded together to form the honeycomb shaped cells. voluptatibus commodi numquam, error, est. Ea, consequatur.

Real wood blinds are truly made from wood which has an outstanding look which offers the natural, warm and organic feel to your decor. Many people prefer real hardwood blinds just for the sophistication and refined quality that real wood blinds impart to any room.m voluptatibus commodi numquam, error, est. Ea, consequatur.

Faux Wood Blinds are made from a variety of materials including composite, PVC, vinyl or foam wood. They include a wood grain and are stained to match wood colors. Manufacturers use the term “faux wood,” meaning a wood substitute to create the look and feel of true wood.

Vertical blinds function a lot like venetian blinds in their design. Instead of being horizontal, they’re vertical – but it’s the same concept. Opening them is easy with two cords to the side that slide the vanes across the headrail and kept together by chains at the bottom.

Unlike venetian blinds, the fabric of a vertical blind is much thinner and allows for better overlap. This means that they come available in either dimout or blackout options.

  • Benefits of Vertical Blinds:- Vertical blinds are perhaps the most affordable choice for full-size windows and doors. Whether it’s a sliding door or a French door; their simple design makes them excellent candidates. Like most other fabric blinds they come in an array of colours to choose.
  • Disadvantages of Vertical Blinds:- Vertical blinds are typically chosen to cover large areas, so when it comes to cleaning them, you need to wipe each vane separately. In their defence a large surface area would always be harder to clean, but it would be much easier with a single fabric such as roller blinds.

A mini blind is a type of horizontal window blind made of long, narrow slats held together by string. Its slats are less than half the width of a regular venetian blind, and are often made of aluminium, measuring 15 millimetres or 25 millimetres.

  • Highly effective at controlling light – While mini blinds aren’t as effective at blocking out light as blackout shades, they provide ample light control for most homeowners. They’re also easily operated, as wands can be used to open their slats and lift cords can be used to pull them up or down as needed.
  • Moderate cost – Mini blinds are popular choices for homeowners with a variety of budgets. They’re an especially attractive option for people who need to outfit an entire home, as the costs of higher end window treatments can add up when they must be purchased for a dozen or more windows.
  • Easy to clean – Because most mini blinds are made from highly durable and often synthetic materials, they’re easy to clean with household items, including many mild cleaners. With other blinds and shades, homeowners may need to watch out for staining or fading, but mini blinds hold up even after being exposed to small amounts of water or cleaner. They’re also easily dusted and wiped clean, making routine maintenance and upkeep a breeze.

Woven wood shades are a beautiful way to add texture and update your windows from boring slatted blinds. They’re made from bamboo, jute, rattan or natural grasses that are woven into a material with natural variation and rich texture.

Fabric blinds or cloth blinds are a combination of the light filtering properties of a shade with the light controlling slats of a blind. Fabric blinds have slats made from woven fabrics that can be tilted to better control the amount of light entering a room.

A window shutter is a solid and stable window covering usually consisting of a frame of vertical stiles and horizontal rails (top, centre and bottom). Set within this frame can be louvers (both operable or fixed, horizontal or vertical), solid panels, fabric, glass and almost any other item that can be mounted within a frame. Shutters may be employed for a variety of reasons, including controlling the amount of sunlight that enters a room, to provide privacy, security, to protect against weather or unwanted intrusion or damage and to enhance the aesthetics of a building.

How much should floor installation cost?

Cost of flooring installation varies greatly depending on the material you choose. Materials are typically sold per square foot. Other costs include installation, delivery, labor, cleaning and disposal of old floor materials. We recommend adding 20% to 25% of the budgeted amount to any home improvement project—you never know what you’ll find when you get started.
